Seven Sisters, East Sussex, August 2025
The Seven Sisters are a run of dramatic white chalk cliffs on the East Sussex coast between Cuckmere Haven and Eastbourne, one of the most photographed stretches of coastline in England. Two lighthouses mark the headland: Belle Tout, a decommissioned lighthouse now a B&B perched right on the cliff edge, and Beachy Head lighthouse, its red-and-white stripes standing in the sea below the tallest chalk cliff in Britain.
One evening in August 2025 I timed a drone flight along the cliffs for golden hour, catching the chalk glowing gold and pink as the sun dropped towards the sea. As the light faded, a full moon rose directly behind the cliffs at Birling Gap, turning from deep orange low on the horizon to a clear golden disc as it climbed, with my fiancée on the beach below for scale.
