Four Waterfalls Walk, Bannau Brycheiniog, April 2025
The Four Waterfalls Walk follows the Afon Mellte and Afon Hepste through a wooded gorge near Ystradfellte on the southern edge of Bannau Brycheiniog (the Brecon Beacons), taking in four major falls: Sgwd Clun-Gwyn, Sgwd Isaf Clun-Gwyn, Sgwd y Pannwr and Sgwd yr Eira. The path winds through ancient oak woodland and drops steeply to the riverbanks, with each waterfall a different shape and character.
An overcast April day kept the light soft and even, ideal for long-exposure water and the deep greens of the gorge. Sgwd yr Eira is the highlight: a rock ledge runs behind the curtain of falling water, letting you walk through to the far side and photograph the river from inside the waterfall itself.
