Hawk Conservancy Trust, Hampshire, 2026

A day photographing birds of prey in flight at the Hawk Conservancy Trust near Andover. Owls, eagles, vultures, falcons and kites caught mid-flight against open sky and the ruined archway used for some of the flying displays, plus quieter portraits taken between shows.

Every photo here was taken on one day in April 2026. The Trust is a conservation charity as well as a place to visit, and its flying displays bring the birds low over the crowd, which makes it a good place to practise photographing birds in flight.

The set runs from birds you might see over Hampshire, such as barn and tawny owls, kestrels, red kites and a goshawk, to species from much further afield: African fish eagles, Steller's sea eagles, Egyptian, lappet-faced and turkey vultures, a crested caracara, a southern bald ibis and white storks. The owls range from a pair of tiny burrowing owls to the great grey owl and the Eurasian eagle owl, one of the largest owls in the world.
