Abingdon-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, 2026
Abingdon is a market town on the Thames a few miles south of Oxford, often claimed as one of the oldest continually inhabited towns in England. St Helen's Church spire rises above the rooftops and the river, with moored narrowboats and cruisers along the water and a stone footbridge over a nearby lily pond. The surrounding farmland turned up plenty of wildlife too: red kites hunting and perched at dusk, a fox crossing a stubble field, and hares out in the open early in the day.
