Portsdown Hill, Portsmouth, Hampshire, 2026
Portsdown Hill rises above Portsmouth on the Hampshire coast, giving one of the widest views in the south of England: the city, its harbour, Spinnaker Tower and the Solent laid out below. Over several visits the hill produced a hazy dawn skyline, a deep partial lunar eclipse tracked from first shadow to its reddest point, a clear lit-up dusk view with the naval base and cranes picked out in detail, a misty temperature-inversion sunrise with pylons rising out of a sea of fog in the valley below, and a run of dusk and sunset panoramas over the harbour.
