Staunton Country Park, Hampshire, 2026
A quieter, closer session at Staunton Country Park: mute swans and a cormorant on the water, a moorhen threading through branches, snowdrops carpeting the woodland floor, and the park's Gothic bridge wrapped in mist.
The park, near Havant, was laid out in the early nineteenth century by Sir George Staunton around an ornamental lake, and the follies and bridges he added still stand among the trees. This set comes from a single visit in February 2026, when the woods were at their quietest.
The cormorant came close enough for a full portrait, and away from the water a bracket fungus growing on old timber was worth getting down low for.
